The Perfect Sunscreen

I did it. I found the best mineral sunscreen I’ve ever used.

Non greasy, hydrating, protective, no white cast and doesn’t break me out! It’s also a beautiful makeup primer as it smooths the skin and has the tiniest blurring tint.

Every other sunscreen, be it mineral or chemical, had a tendency to do the opposite of one or all of the traits listed above.

Say hello to Consonant The Perfect Sunscreen SPF 30.

This sunscreen is 100% natural and CANADIAN MADE!

I’ve been using it for a couple months now and was sceptical. But it’s proven to be effective and just awesome!

I’m not looking back 😎

Eye, Cheek & Lip Favourites 2018

This year I fell back in love with makeup. I didn’t wear much in 2017 - which was liberating. But 2018 offered so many wonderful new products and people to be inspired by.
Here are my top Eye, Cheek & Lip favourites of the year!

Left to Right:

& Other Stories Eyebrow Powder in Fawn - I grabbed this from the clearance section of & other stories while in L.A. because it’s my favourite shade of eyeSHADOW. It’s too warn and light for me as a brow product, but for my lids it’s my FAVOURITE tone. I’ll use this alone all over the lid and add dimension. It blends out beautifully and is well pigmented. A perfect warm brown :)

Glossier Cloud Paints in Dusk & Dawn - Cloud paints were a discovery from 2017, but they launched 2 new colours this year. One of them being Dawn: “A sunny coral”. It’s so pigmented that the tiniest amount is needed on fair skin.
This combination in particular is one of my favourites: I take 2 parts Dusk (a brownish nude) & 1 Part Dawn, mix them together to create a beautiful terracotta colour for my cheeks, eyes and lips.

Ilia Beauty Multi stick in At Last - The Ilia Multi sticks are some of my favourite blushes all year round for all skin types. At Last is a muted dusty rose. I usually gravitate towards warm cheek tones but this is a universally flattering colour. It’s creamy but dries down to a satin finish. Super easy to blend in with your fingers and can be used on cheeks and eyes as well.

Nars Ignited Eyeshadow Palette - Okay, I had a $25 off voucher at Sephora recently and decided to use it on this palette as I wouldn’t normally spend $75 on 12 eyeshadows. I didn’t want to miss out on this palette either - and I’m glad I didn’t! Hooooooly crap, Nars is killing it. These shadows are so easy to use. You only need the tiniest amount on your brush. I love the matte shades selection on they’re own or with a touch of the sparkle toppers. Any combination you decide to use from this palette is going to look beautiful. In my opinion, that makes a great palette - when you don’t have to overthink your look.

MAC Eye Khol in Costa Riche - After many years, I’m having a love affair with MAC again. This eye khol has impressed me so much, I even wore it on my wedding day. I usually have a huge problem with mascara and liner smearing on me. This pencil doesn’t. It’s a beautiful warm, rich chocolate brown. It’s creamy enough to soften lines, but sets so well!

Glossier Boy Brow - Another discovery from last year, but I swear i’ve used this every day in 2018 - making it a favourite. Either used on its own or overtop of brow pencil to set. Personally, I love it on its own. I can create my desired shape, while filling in sparse spots at the same time. The best brow product for full, fluffy brows.

Flesh Beauty Eye & Cheek Gloss in Fleshpot - Snagged this from Ulta while in L.A. because it looked so beautiful and figured I couldn’t go wrong. It creates such a beautiful glossy eyelid, either worn on its own or overtop of your favourite shadow; On top of the cheekbones for a little extra cheek shine looks insanely beautiful as well. However, the real reason it’s my favourite is because it feels and looks so incredible on the lips. Add the tiniest bit of a shimmer, while looking natural. It’s very soothing too! There’s just something about it.

Gucci Eye Precision Liner - Sometimes you can get lucky at Winners. In this case, I did. Again, I have a hard time finding liners and mascaras that don’t smudge on me. This Gucci liner is legit. And it’s the blackest black too! So easy to create a perfect graphic black line that won’t smudge. A+

Cover FX Shimmer Veil in Amethyst - People need to give Cover FX more credit. They’re Vegan, Cruelty free, No mineral oil, no parabens and gluten free. This is important to many people. They’re mainly a complexion brand but this year branched out into eyes. Shimmer Veils are made specifically for wear on the eyes because they’re safe, and don’t crease! Once they set, it’s set. That’s why they are perfect for bridal looks.
This shade is in Amethyst and is a cool pinkish-purple. Sort of a modern 80’s vibe. You can wear it alone or on top of shadows. It’s great!

Hyper Moisture

This year, I have winter by the balls. Normally I’d struggle with dry, sensitive skin but I’ve finally found the perfect combination of products that help combat and control dryness with ease and effectiveness

Left to Right:
Northlore Sweetgrass Aura Mist - A naturally scented sweetgrass botanical water made in Saskatchewan. I spray this directly on my face before applying serums and oils - as moist skin absorbs water and oil based products quicker and more effectively.

Ren Everclam Ultra Comforting Rescue Mask - This is a beautiful mask for a quick surge of moisture. Rescue is the key word as I only use it when I start to notice slight flaking or irritations & redness.

The Ordinary Plant Derived Squalane Oil - My holy grail facial oil. I’ve talked a lot about my love for squalane oil and you’ll begin to see it appear in more and more skincare and makeup soon. One of the most stable oils, it doesn’t oxidize on your skin, which means it won’t speed up the aging process. It’s so insanely hydrating and also looks beautiful under makeup or mixed in to sheer our heavier foundations.

Weleda Skin Food - If I had one skincare product to use for the rest of my life, this would be it.
This stuff is ridiculously effective. So nourishing! The name is no joke. You can apply it to the high point of your face for a super natural looking highlight effect; you can concentrate it on very dry and flaky spots; or you can lather it all over like a mask. It makes a great lip mask too. Skin Food layered overtop of Squalane oil for intense moisture is a great combo.

BITE Beauty Agave Lip Mask - I own this in 4 out the 5 flavours because it’s the best lip product I’ve ever used.
It’s full of naturally moisturizing ingredients like Jojoba Oil, Castor Seed Oil, Shea Butter and Bees Wax. Never leaves your lips dry or chapped. I love using it under most lip sticks to sheer out colour, or on it’s own.
It also makes a beautiful highlight on the skin :)

Muji Moisturizing MIlk for Sensitive Skin - I picked this up in the spring and find it’s a great, gentle year round moisture milk as it’s super light. Lots of water, glycerin, squalane and castor seed oil. An awesome product for layering with skincare and makeup. Sometimes I’ll use it in conjunction with the Weleda Skin Food, or on its own if I’m feeling hydrated already.

Hot Day Essentials

This will most likely be my summer essentials kit:

Bioderma Photoderm Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50 – Higher Zinc in mineral sunscreen equals more protection and also less whitecast. This stuff is great for under makeup or on it’s own for face and body

RMS Beauty Uncover Up – This is all I wear for my base as a foundation/concealer. It covers beautifully, melts into the skin and looks so natural and radiant. I love the way it looks over time.

Glossier Cloud Paint in Dusk – This looks beautiful on the cheeks and temples as a little bit of a natural bronzy/flushed look. Keeps skin nice and dewy too

Ilia Beauty Multistick in I Put A Spell On You – It’s my go-to summer cheek colour as it’s a warm/peachy/coral. I enjoy layering it over the Glossier Cloud Paint for a multi-toned blush effect.

Glossier Boy Brow in Brown – A couple swipes of this on the brows is all I need for a little fill and groom. Looks very natural and is so easy to use!

Clinique FIT Mascara – The new Clinique FIT Mascara is not quite a waterproof mascara but performs like one! It’s easy to take off with regular eye makeup remover and has a nice long, skinny applicator for lengthy, fan-like lashes.

BITE Beauty Agave Lip Mask in Smashed – This has a beautiful fuchsia tint. So incredibly hydrating and natural looking. Just a bit goes a long way.

2017 Favourite Skincare Discoveries

2017 was a great year for new skincare products and discoveries. So much great innovative technology, some stripped back to basics or naturally derived.

Turning 30 and starting to see small changes in my face and skin has really made me become aware of bad habits I had in my 20’s and in turn, the effects they potentially caused. Habits like: not always washing my face before bed; using highly perfumed and alcohol products; not always wearing sunscreen; and picking, poking, popping and prodding, etc.

Diet and Lifestyle haven’t been horrible but could always be better. I’ve never smoked and I only drink socially occasionally. But time and gravity have begun to take it’s toll, so now I’m trying to become hyperaware of what I’m putting on my face. It’s never too early to start taking precautions.

Top Right going Clockwise:

Juice Beauty Blemish Clearing Cleanser – This is my favourite new cleanser. I’ve been using it for a couple months now and enjoy how clean it leaves my skin feeling. It’s certified organic and the first 4 ingredients are all fruit/plant derived juice (organic lemon juice, sweet cherry juice, red grape juice and aloe juice). Since using it, I’ve noticed the frequency, severity and size of any pimples that I get are significantly reduced and smaller.

Pixi Glow Mud Mask – I love this mask if I feel my skin is producing too much oil in certain areas and creating pimples. It’s a great clarifier with kaolin clay and dead sea mud and works super well as a spot treatment to fight breakouts, yet has plenty of aloe and hydrating oils to keep the skin balanced.

The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Solution – The Ordinary was a great skincare discovery for me this year. In such a short amount of time, their products have enhanced the quality and strength of my skin. The Salicylic Acid keep my pores clean, unclogged and smaller; breakouts are less frequent and when applied as a spot treatment – minimize the longevity of the breakouts.

The Ordinary Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution 12% – This is a vitamin C solution that helps brighten and tone the skin. It’s my first brightening product and it’ll most likely be my Holy Grail. After only a few uses I noticed a huge difference in my complexion. From the diminishment of my (inevitable) summer tan, red spots from old breakouts and the evenness of tone in my skin. It also helps with signs of aging!

The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution – This is a great AHA product for beginners as it’s gently formulated and hydrating. You’ll still get all the effects of a high percentage AHA, with no irritation. I love how much product you get for the price point, the colour and smell are lovely and it feels great to apply. It’s helped with the texture, glow and evenness of my skin.

Dermalogica Multi Active Toner – I love facial mists and toners. This is a lovely one that I spray on my face for added moisture before applying any face oils or hydrators. It helps the skin absorb product faster. This also helps balance the PH levels of the skin, which leads to less dryness and more hydration. It smells great too

The Ordinary 100% Plant Derived Squalane Oil – This might be my favourite discovery of the year. I had been using Rose Hip Oil prior and found out it’s an unstable polyunsaturated oil which oxidize faster and prematurely age the skin :(. Squalane Oil keeps my skin hydrated, absorbs quickly into my skin and leaves it baby smooth.
Please read more about Squalane Oil benefits and the negative effects of Polyunsaturated Oils here:     and here:

MyChelle Sun Sheild Clear Stick SPF 50 – It’s almost impossible to find the perfect sunscreen. I was on a mission to find a mineral sunscreen that wouldn’t leave my skin feeling congested and grimey, with a good ingredients list, and optimal sun protection. It was hard. I found one that I’m happy to put on my face. It’s 17% Zinc Oxide and the first few ingredients are Beeswax, Shea Butter, Sativa and Candelilia Oils. Not Bad.

Dermologica Skin Smoothing Cream – I’ve come to terms with not being able to find a moisturize loaded with silicones and fillers for an affordable price. This winter my skin need a bit of extra moisture. So I bought the travel size to see if I liked it enough to warrant buying the full size. So far, I like the moisture it provides but am not crazy about the silicones in it. I feel like it may be causing a couple of the breakouts I’ve recently had since using it. But, it’s not too bad.

2017 Favourite Makeup Discoveries

2017 started off slow for new makeup purchases. Nearing the end – is a different story.

Here are my favourite new makeup discoveries of 2017!
(Starting Top right going Clockwise):

Cover FX Perfect Setting Powder – I don’t use powder very often, unless I’m using a super oil infused, extra dewy makeup. If so, I only powder in my T-zone, around my nose and chin. This formula is beautiful! So finely milled, talc free (!), and diffuses light to blur and smooth your complexion. It’s translucent and won’t leave your skin dry, chalky or cakey.

Hourglass Confession Ultra Slim/High Intensity Lipstick in I’ve Been – First, I’m a sucker for good packaging. This resembles those long, “elegant”, feminine cigarette holders from time’s past. Except this is the closest I’ll ever come to a cigarette. The texture is creamy, smooth and semi-hydrating. It’s got great long wear too. The colour is right up my alley: Medium toned, warm, bricky-redish/brown undertones. My favourite lip colour of the year!

BITE Beauty Agave Lipmask in Champagne – Whoooooooa, this stuff is unreal. Loaded full of naturally moisturizing ingredients like Jojoba Oil, Castor Seed Oil, Shea Butter and Bees Wax. I wear it alone for a clean, hydrated look. Or under any lip colour for extra moisture and to sheer out the colour of choice.

Sephora Collection PRO Airbrush concealer Brush – I’m not sure why, but I’d always “brushed off” Sephora Collection Brushes. That is, until I started market training at Sephora and got the chance to actually play with them. The PRO collection in particular is beautiful. This brush is perfect if you don’t want a full face of foundation, but to lightly conceal certain areas and make sure all edges are buffed out. Very soft and gentle for the under-eye area as well.

Glossier Cloud Paint in Beam – Believe the hype. The Glossier Cloud Paints are so dreamy. They’re a gel-cream consistency, highly pigmented and very easy to use. They’re great all year round but I’m really enjoying them this winter as my cheeks always tend to get a bit dry. Cloud paint is dewy and doesn’t sit awkwardly in dry patches like powders do. 10/10

Glossier Boy Brow in Medium – Everyone should have a good tinted brow product. This is a creamy wax texture that grooms, fills in and sets. All in one. It isn’t too liquidy and doesn’t get stiff or flake after application. It has a tiny brush applicator that allows you to create little hair-like strokes if you need some extra help filling in patches.

Becca Light Chaser Highlighter in Opal flashes Jade – Becca is pretty renown for highlighters and dewy skin. This product is so fun and versatile. It’s a powder highlight with Opal/Pearlescent Base with flashes of Jade (A green, rose-gold iridescence). I enjoy this product all over my eyelids, on my cheekbone and even my lips. Maybe not all at the same time, but whatever you fancy! I like to spray my brush with Mac Fix+ to get an extra glimmery sheen.

Josie Maran Vibrancy Argan Oil Foundation Fluid in G15 (Cosmic) – Such a lovely foundation. It’s super lightweight, has medium-buildable coverage but will never really look like makeup. It looks like skin! It’s ultra dewy because of the Argan Oil, but so hydrating. Great for dryer skin. BONUS, the shade G15 is my perfect shade match! YIPPEE

Clinique Beyond Perfecting Super Concealer – I’m very impressed with this product. I always love finding concealer that is dewy, good coverage, buildable and that I don’t always have to set – especially under the eyes. I hate powder under my eyes. If you don’t want a face full of foundation, this looks beautiful on it’s own as well.

Urban Decay Naked Skin Highlighting Fluid in SIN – I got this little sample at Sephora and I’ve been enjoying it! It’s a very slight, natural glow. It isn’t too shimmery or have those big chunky glitter particles like lots of highlights do. The liquid consistency is very easy to work with. It’s pretty fool proof, especially if you’re new to highlight.

That’s a wrap!

Minimal Makeup Routine

Don’t get me wrong, I still own way too much and my kit is at full capacity.
I’ve lightened my load, but still feel the need to purge more. I’m becoming much smarter about my purchases and not buying as frivolously as I once was. (I’ve purchased only 3 new makeup products in the past 3 months!)
That being said, I still wear makeup when I work or if I’m going somewhere special. But it’s a very very minimal makeup application using mostly green beauty products. Here are the products in my current makeup routine:

(Top Right Going Clockwise)

MAC Eye Shadows in Charcoal Brown & Concrete – These are my current brow products applied with an angled brush. I mix the two and lightly feather them into my brows just to fill in where I may need it. I then brush the products through with a lash/brow brush.
I’m personally not into heavily drawn on brows – so I like mine looking natural and a little imperfect. The effect a brow powder or eyeshadow gives is exactly what I’m wanting to achieve.

RMS Beauty Lip Shine in Bloom – RMS products are a blessing. They are made with minimal, organic ingredients. Have a look for yourself hereTheir philosophy on beauty and products is also so refreshing. Essentially, their products double as skincare. You shouldn’t only be thinking about what you put in your body, but also what you put on your face.
This lipshine is a lovely cream texture that melts onto the lips leaving them hydrated and with the perfect pop of colour. It has a nice amount of pigment in it, but isn’t too “full on”. This colour gives me a “your lips but better” look.

BITE Beauty Multi-Stick in Honeywheat – I’ve been coveting this colour for quite some time now. Whenever I’d go into Sephora, I’d swatch the Multi-Sticks on my hand and wouldn’t really like the texture and consistency they were giving (probably because the testers were drying out). After waiting and waiting since their launch, I finally gave in. I’m VERY glad I gave in!
The product is very beautiful and very easy to use. A little goes a long way! They blend out beautifully, melt onto the skin with ease and are quite buildable.
Honeywheat is a very warm, medium brown, bronze with a satin finish. I apply this product all over the lid and bit under the eye using a MAC 239 brush, then blend it out with a MAC 217 brush. It doesn’t have to be perfect, just as long as it’s blended with no harsh edges.

RMS Master Mixer – The Master Mixer is so multifaceted. With a beautiful Rose Gold finish, it can be used on its own as a highlighter, lip illuminator, or eye colour. But it really shines when it’s mixed with other products – hense the name Master MIXER.
I use this product by sweeping it over the application of the Multi-Stick on my eyes using the RMS Eye Polish Brush. It gives the eyeshadow the most beautiful, natural looking due.

Once I apply my foundation, I use my finger to apply the Master Mixer above my cheekbones, up my brow, down my nose, and on my cupids bow for a natural looking highlight.

RMS “Un”Cover-Up in 11 – If I had to choose one foundation to wear for the rest of my life, I would choose this product. My skin can’t handle heavy duty, extra long wear, matte foundations anymore (Not that I ever could). I hate the way they feel and I don’t like how they look on me.
I’ve been taking extra special care of my skin lately and I believe it’s been showing. I want to show off my skin as oppose to covering it. This product has great coverage as it doubles as a foundation/concealer. But it can also be blended and sheered out. It melts beautifully into the skin and acts as a moisturizer as well. That’s because the main ingredient is Coconut Oil. It also helps when a foundation matches your skin shade perfectly. That’s exactly what shade 11 does for me. Until now, I’ve never found a foundation where I didn’t have to apply down my neck. So refreshing not having to apply product to my ears or down my neck! I only apply where I need it.
This product does have a bit of a learning curve. There is a specific way to apply the product which favours a “skin to skin” application. This means no Beauty Blender necessary. However, if you mustn’t use your fingers, it’s recommended you use the RMS Skin2Skin Foundation Brush. It mimicks the feeling of skin to skin contact with it’s bristle technology.
My favourite beauty blogger, BEAUTY EDITOR, wrote a great blog post dedicated to the application of the RMS Un-Cover Foundation. It’s a very useful read!

Clinique Lash Power Mascara – Most mascaras smudge on me. It’s very annoying.
Clinique makes a Bottom Lash Mascara that doesn’t smudge worth a damn! Its staying power is ultimate. I figured if they make a bottom lash mascara with that kind of staying power, surely they must make a regular mascara with the same formula. Sure enough, they do! Lash Power Mascara is a tubing mascara which means it doesn’t penetrate the hairs or skin, rather creates a water resistant tube around each hair.

Bonus, it’s very easy to remove with conventional makeup removers, micellar waters or coconut oil.

ILIA Beauty Multi-Stick in I Put A Spell On You – I love a good Multi-stick. Using this primarily as a cream blush, the colour is a pretty peachy, orangey, coral. I apply this using a Real Techniques Multi Task Brush. Covering one side of the brush with colour, gently applying on the high point of the cheek and blending out with the clean side of my brush.

The product is very nicely pigmented and really hard to mess up the application.
I find this product a little too drying for my lips. But looks amazing on cheeks when my face is nicely hydrated. In conjunction with the RMS Uncover foundation, these two are a match made in makeup heaven.

Face Mist Favourites

Here are my favourite face mists I’ve been enjoying this winter season.

Top Right going Clockwise:

Mac Prep and Prime Fix + – This one is a given and included in every makeup artists kit.
Water, Glycerin, Fruit extracts and Caffeine play a huge roll in hydration, and a great tool for refreshing any makeup application. It can also be used on hair to add shine and as a facial toner.

Avene Thermal Spring Water – A very gentle, fragrance free, pure spring water.
Perfect for travel and exceptional for flights. Flying is notorious for dehydrating skin and this stuff comes in very handy when it needs extra moisture. Also great to calm inflamed skin caused by acne, sunburn or excess heat.

Caudalie Eau De Raisin Hydratante Grape Water – This stuff rules. It’s 100% Organic, Preservative free and Fragrance Free. The grapes used come from Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte in Bordeaux, France. They use a specific technique when they’re extracting the juice from the grapes to separate water from the juice through an evaporation process. Added is a touch of grape juice to create the perfect formulation.
This makes a great toner and refreshing dull skin in need of a serious boost.

Pixi Hydrating Milky Mist  – Smells amazing and helps keep skin hydrated with Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin A. Plumps up the skin and creates a beautiful, youthful, dewy appearance.

Caudalie Beauty Elixir – Has a lovely fragrance from the essential oils and works effectively as a makeup setting spray. However, I don’t use it too often as alcohol is the second ingredient which can irritate and dry out skin which causes aging. This works great when sprayed on clothes as a hint of perfume.

Pur Minerals Miracle Mist Hydrate & Set – Do yourself a favour and pick this stuff up!
It smells of fresh oranges and is one of the best makeup setting sprays to achieve a fresh, dewy look. I also spray it when I’m tired and need a mood boost. Super refreshing!

Drug Store Favourites

Regardless, many are seriously good. It doesn’t always take a trip to Sephora or Mac to get fantastic quality in your cosmetics.
Here’s my roundup of (just some) my favourite drug store beauty products:

Top Right going Clockwise:

Maybelline The Nudes Eyeshadow Palette: This palette debuted 1 1/2 years ago and it was a game changer in regards to good palettes sold buy any drugstore brand. Thanks to the popularity of the Urban Decay NAKED Palette, many brands are following suit with collections of their best nude shadows. The selection of nude hues in this palette are great. A wonderful variety of Matte, Shimmer and Velvet textures – and great pigmentation.
For $15, you can’t go wrong.

Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer: This is my holy grail drug store concealer. Heck, I’m yet to find any concealer that has the hydrating properties as this one does. The coverage is excellent, it’s hydrating and it comes in a nice colour selection. This stuff rules! $8

Real Techniques Brushes: Pictured above is the Real Techniques Blush Brush. Real Techniques brushes have changed the game as far as being affordable for mostly everyone. They are great “starter” brushes for beginners, and all the pros use Real Techniques as well! You can find them at Walmart, London Drugs and if you’re lucky, Winners. $8-$20 (individual brush and sets)

L’Oreal Visable Lift Blur Blush: This blush is a gel/cream formula which was introduced in the last 2 years. It creates an airbrushed/blurred effect that melts into the skin to appear like you’re blushing from within. I’ve read that this blush is an exact dupe of the Giorgio Armani Blushing Fabric Second Skin Blush. Comes in 3 shades and goes for $12

Maybelline The Falsies Mascara: “The Falsies” now have many offshoots of mascaras. The Push Up Drama is what I just happen to have in my collection at the moment. The Original and Waterproof “The Falsies” are also fantastic. I’m fond of the formula as it’s not too runny and you’re able to apply many coats before it starts to get spidery. The brushes are made well and have nice flexibility. They’re super easy to apply and create the perfect fluttery, bold lash. $11

NYX Butter Gloss: Lucky us, Shoppers Drug Mart is rolling out the NYX line in many locations. You’ll soon be able to find these easier to attain. The Butter Gloss collection comes in a huge variety of colours. They are great applied over your favourite lip stick to add more gloss and vibrancy. Or they are great worn alone for a touch of healthy colour and shine. They smell like cotton candy and the formula isn’t sticky – it’s BUTTERY and hydrating. $6

Essie Nail Polish in Fuji: I remember when Essie was exclusively at beauty supply stores and was $12 a bottle. Now it’s sold at Shoppers Drug Mart and only go for $8 with a rainbow variety of colours and finishes. Essie drys smooth, evenly and is super long lasting. Keep in mind it helps to have a bottom and top coat, but even without coats the finish is near flawless. Fuji is a top favourite.

L’Oreal Lineur Intense Felt Tip Liquid Eyeliner: This has been a staple in my makeup bag since high school (grade 10 was 14 years ago!!). It was the very first liquid eyeliner I ever used and it still holds up to this day. Granted, it’s not as long lasting and “tattooesque “as new and improved formulas. But the felt tip is SO easy to use and create the perfect line. $15

Maybelline Color Tattoo 24 hour Eyeshadow in Creamy Beige: These Color Tattoo eyeshadows are seriously good! They truly have longevity and staying power. You could apply these, go swimming, rub your eyes and they’d still be hanging around. This particular colour is almost an exact dupe for my favourite MAC Paint Pot in Groundwork.
I swear, it’s a near perfect replica. It’s the perfect “No Makeup-Makeup” colour. One tip with these shadows is you gotta work fast with them. They set very quickly, but once they’re on – they’re on! $12

Maybelline Brow Drama Mascara: I guess you could say I’m pretty partial to Maybelline. I just find they are really doing a really good job at staying relevant with their formulas and innovative with their products, while keeping it affordable and fun. Case in point, this sculpting brow mascara. It’s a gel formula that bulks up the brow by attaching itself to the smallest hairs you didn’t even know you had, which creates the illusion or more hairs and a fuller brow. It also sets the brows in place. The applicator is new and fun. The brush bristles create a round shape near the end of the applicator which allows for easy application or precision. $9

Joe Fresh Sheer Tint: I love Joe Fresh Cosmetics. I bought the first Generation of this Sheer Tint 2 years ago and loved it. The 1st Gen was a bit more dewy, but also felt dewy. I didn’t mind that, but I can see how many people don’t want to feel like they’re wearing makeup. This is the new and improved formula. It’s SUPER lightweight, very light coverage. Essentially, it’s a tinted moisturizer. Very hydrating and will blur the most minor imperfections and even out the skintone. $12

Favourite Drugstore Makeup blogpost to come!)

Without further ado, here are my favourite MAC products:

Top Right going Clockwise:

MAC Blotting Powder Pressed – Blotting Powder was one of my first MAC purchases. It was purchased in conjunction with the HyperReal Foundation (REMEMBER THAT GEM? Savannah I’m looking at you!) It was a light/medium coverage foundation with a super luminous, dewy finish with minuscule specks of sparkle. Blotting Powder was created as a perfection powder to set makeup whilst not building texture. It absorbs oil and shine whilst not creating a caky finish.

MAC 266 Angled Brush – This is my to go Brow Brush. I like to use it with eyeshadow or the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Pomade to fill in my brows. It’s also the perfect eyeliner brush and creates a sleek line if used with Gel Liner. This brush is a staple in many professional kits.

MAC Sheertone Blush in Garb – This is bittersweet because it came from the limited edition Pret-A-Papier line. It’s a semi-matte, darkened nude with orange undertones. I’ve always had a hard-on for 60’s southern California makeup (i.e. Tanned skin, nude lips, lots of mascara). This blush reminded me of the woman of The Graduate: Mrs Robinson and her daughter, Elaine. I’ll be savouring this blush for many years to come.

MAC Satin Eyeshadow in Cork – Satin is my favourite finish of MAC eyeshadows. Cork is my all time favourite go to shade as it’s warm toned, muted golden brown. It looks beautiful applied all over the lid, lower lid for definition, or as a soft crease colour.

MAC 217 Blending Brush and MAC 239 Eye Shader Brush – The 217 brush is the quintessential blending brush. It’s perfect balance of firmness & softness doesn’t irritate the eye, and applies & blends pigment & colour so effortlessly.
The 239 brush is another staple in professional makeup kits as it’s a multifacated brush. It the perfect brush for densely packing down colour to the lids and lower lid. It may be used to apply contour colour to the nose, as well as a lip brush to soften any harsh lines or apply a soft wash of colour to the lips.

MAC Lustre Lipstick in Freckle Tone – Because of my hard-on for a 60’s nude lip, I was on the hunt for the perfect warm toned nude lipsticks that wouldn’t wash me out and make me look dead- which can so easily happen with a too light nude shade. It’s warm toned, slightly peach colour. It’s semi-opaque/semi-sheer finish. As you can see, i’m due for a new bullet

MAC Paint Pot in Groundwork – I love Mac Paint Pots. They are the perfect base/primer for eyeshadow or excellent on their own. They are highly pigmented. Some have a matte finish, others frosted and shimmery. Groundwork is the perfect balance of both. It has the slightest lustre that makes the eyelid keep it’s naturally dewy appearance (which in my opinion, looks so healthy) but adds a richness in colour. It’s a epitome of the perfect natural eyelid colour.

MAC Paint Pot in Indianwood – Indiawood is the perfect bronzy, gold toned eyelid colour. It’s so warm that when blended up the crease, it almost has an amber tone effect. Again, great as a base or on it’s own. It would work very well as a highlight colour on very dark, warm skin tones.

New Favourites

Here are a few of my favourite new purchases I’ve been using daily:

Clockwise from Top Right:

Zoeva Cocoa Blend Palette – I’ve been coveting this palette for months now after discovering it on ViviannaDoesMakeup‘s YouTube Channel. It truly is a universally flattering warm toned palette. These are colours I love to wear all year round. They are so highly pigmented, with a buttery texture for easy blendabilty.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation – Sali Hughes, a Beauty Editor based in the UK highly regards this as one of the best foundations on the market. It’s a medium/full, buildable coverage foundation. I’d say it’s a demi-matte foundation. However, it can become dewy if mixed with moisturizer and applied with fingers or a Beauty Blender.
Creates a flawless finish but the skin still looks like fresh skin. I like when I can still see my light freckles on my nose

Too Faced Milk Chocolate Soleil – This. Stuff. Is. Queen. This is the bronzer I’ve been waiting for all my life. IT SMELLS LIKE CHOCOLATE! It’s a light/medium matte bronzer, which is perfect for fair skinned peeps like myself. It’s so finely milled so it won’t create a patchy application. uuuuuuuuuughsogooooood.

Tarte Maracuja Creaseless Concealer – I’ve finally found the perfect under eye concealer that I don’t need to powder! It’s a very concentrated, full coverage, creamy concealer that sets on it’s own. With hydrating properties from the maracuja oil, it’s very moisturizing – especially for the undereye area. GREAT STUFF

Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid – A new January launch by Maybelline. This liquid lip colour sets matte but feels so velvety and hydrating. It’s also super long lasting. I chose the colour 30 Orange Shot.

Saje Rose Hydrating Euphoric Mist – Saje is all the rage. I love spraying this mist when I need a refreshing boost, after I wash my face, before I apply makeup and after makeup application. It’s a great setting spray and smells so good.

Winterize your skin

Products starting from Top Right:
Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil – Great for your entire body, including your hair!

Lush Face and Body Cleanser “Let The Good Times Roll” – This stuff has been in my daily face cleansing routine since the spring. It smells like a Nutrigrain bar! I use it as a gentle exfoliant, cleanser and hydrator.

Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentrate – A cult favourite. I’m sure you’ve been this in many YouTube makeup artist tutorials. This is a holy grail daily moisturizer that works great under makeup or for everyday hydration.

Lush Face Mask “Rosy Cheeks” – This is a new face mask from Lush. It’s a calamine powder and rose clay mask. It smells like rosewater and berries and is targeted to calm and soothe rosy cheeks, and mattify oily skin.

Eau Thermale Avene Cicalfate Repair Cream – A thicker consistency of a creme, this makes a great night cream. I’ll use it as a spot treatment for dry patches as well.

Eucerin Intensive Lip Balm – You’ve seen this in my previous posts because it works so well! Non scented, or abrasive. Very gentle but works like a charm.

Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse Multi-Purpose Dry Oil – A “French Pharmacy” Classic. The smell is wonderful. A fantastic All Purpose oil that doesn’t leave your skin feeling greasy or oily. Absorbs into the skin, leaving it feeling smooth, plump and glowy.

Burts Bees Hand Salve – Don’t forget about your hands, cuticles and…elbows!
Smells of essential oils and mint. Make sure to rub it in well, a little goes a long way.

And the star of the show…

Thayers Rose Petal Witch Hazel – This is the best toner I’ve ever used. It’s alcohol free, which means it won’t dry out your skin; Certified Organic Witch Hazel, and Paraben Free. Use this toner to remove excess makeup, dirt and oil. I love to use it after washing my face, before bed or anytime my face needs hydration and refreshing.
Use generously as it’s only $9 for a 355ml bottle. A STEAL.

Here’s today’s makeup menu:

Top right going clockwise:

Laura Mercier Silk Cream Foundation – A little of this stuff goes a long way! Semi matte finish and fuller coverage foundation.

Clarins Instant Concealer – one of the best under eye concealers on the market. Has a slightly peachy undertone, which helps cover a dark under eye area.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Pomade – This stuff rules if used properly. Make sure you comb the colour through the brow and distribute the colour. (I’m not a huge fan on the ombré, overly drawn on – Instagram brow)

Fresh Sugar Lip balm in Plum – I adore this lip colour for fall. It’s super hydrating and looks like an enhanced natural darker lip.

RMS beauty skin2skin Foundation Brush – I picked this sucker up at Sara Lindsay Makeup Studio. Sara told me Rose Marie Swift (RMS) designed the brush to emulate your finger tips to apply product. Great for the under eye area and buffing concealer around spots.

Charlotte Tilbury The Retoucher – I knew the Charlotte Tilbury line would be good, but I didn’t believe it would be THIS good. The Retoucher pen is so hydrating (which is great for under eye), it has just the right amount of illuminator, and covers mild spots very well.

Bobbi Brown Long Wear Gel Eyeliner in Epresso Ink – I’ve been without a gel liner for quite some time now. After I lost my favourite Elizabeth Arden Gel Liner (which is discontinued) I haven’t bothered to invest in a good one. This lives up to the hype! I always have issues with eyeliners smudging but this one stays put! Application is super easy too.

Charlotte Tilbury Eyes to Mesmurize in Marie Antoniette – HEAVEN. Devine texture, excellent pigmentation, easy application! The colour is so dreamy. I also own Cleopatra, which can be frustrating to apply because the dry time is quite long. But this particular colour is so EASY! Top 3 eyeshadow in my books!

Physicians Formula Multi Colour Custom Face Bronzer – A lovely matte bronzer. Great formula, easy to use. A+

Clinique High Impact Mascara – I like Clinique mascaras. This one is lengthening and thickening. Isn’t a runny consistency. Does the job *thumbs up*

Favourite Products 2014

Ellis Faas Skin Cream Blush – Thanks to a little care package from Saskatchewan Fashion Week courtesy of Ellis Faas, I was to get my hands on this gem. Hydrating, perfectly pigmented and blends flawlessly.

Nars Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base – Perfect for creating a crease-free base and will intensify any eyeshadow applied on top!

Flower Lighten Up! Illuminating Concealer – Drew Barrymore’s makeup line, Flower, is seriously awesome! This concealer has a rich consistency, yet manages to be super lightweight on the skin, while having excellent coverage and illuminating features. Great as a highlighter as well!

Chanel Soleil De Tan – The creme de la creme of bronzers. Adds a dewy finish to your foundation. Great if used as a cheekbone contour for lighter skin shades.

Nars Narsissist Eyeshadow Palette – A perfectly balanced palette of cool, warm and neutral colours; matte, satin and frosted finishes; and highly pigmented! For me, this is a perfect palette.

Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey – I’m not a huge lipstick wearing person. Every so often I’ll throw on a heavy, bright lip. But for everyday wear, I prefer something much lighter and sheer. Almost all year, I’ve embraced my naturally darker pink lips and started wearing more darker plums on them. This product is perfect! Hydrating and sheer with just the right amount of pigment.

Edward Bess Cream Blush and Lip – Found this sucker at Winners. I’ve been really enjoying using cream blushes because of the hydrating factor and their great “blendability”. This one can be used as a  lip colour and smells like Strawberry Jam!

Joe Fresh Eyeshadow in Golden Bronze – Most makeup artists are always impressed if a product has great pigmentation – and i’m one of them. Joe Fresh totally delivers the pigment in their single eyeshadows! I picked this shade up the day of the Fleetwood Mac concert and always sing Gold Dust Woman to myself every time I use it.

Eucerin Intensive Lip Balm – This stuff is the bomb. A nice base for any lip product as well.

Diorskin Star Foundation – My latest makeup purchase has not disappointed! A beautiful satin finish, with a slight illuminating feature and great coverage. Dior doesn’t f*ck around! (pardon me)

Maybelline The Nudes Eyeshadow Palette – You can’t live with just one palette, can you? I can’t. Maybelline has been killing it the last few years with – it seems – new products being released every few months. This is a fantastic warm toned palette. Much like the Nars Palette, is perfectly balances with matte, satin and frosted finishes. Only $14!

Pixi Correction Concentrate in Brightening Peach – I tend to have darker under eye circles. This dense cream has a peachy/pink undertone which helps aid in hiding the blues and purples in under eye circles.

And last but not least,

Anastasia Dip Brow pomade in Medium Brown – I didn’t want to like this stuff. I refused to purchase it for a long time. After seeing many horrendous Instagram, Pinterest and Youtube posts featuring drag-like, heavy handed and unflattering brow techniques with the hashtag #anastasiabeverlyhills, I stayed far away.
I cracked and finally gave in. Great product and great variety of colours. It’s very good.

Face as of late.

Many of these are new purchases and i’m thrilled with the quality and performance of them all. I’ve been using all of these products almost daily to achieve my to go summer face.
